Oh, wait, I've been thinking about your questions, and I see now that you meant, if Widmore knows the coordinates of the island, why has he been searching for it? Good question! I'm going to assume that, because Daniel proved that time was "off" between the freighter's original location and the island, that the island had already moved at least once -- probably when Desmond failed to push the button. So the island was lost to those on the outside for a while after Desmond arrived (remember Ben's chilling words, "Not even God can see this island"?) until Desmond and Penny made their connection and she figured out how to get there. I'm sort of in love with the idea that Penny is Eloise's secret daughter -- they seem to be so much alike.
