I dunno what's wrong with me lately. I've been right here -- on LJ -- but I've totally been lurking for the longest time! I've been reading all your posts, but I just can't think of anything to say. :( And if I'm not commenting, then it's not fair for me to post, is it? So I've been quiet as a mouse, here in my own little corner, in my own little world....

Today I have something to talk about, though. Last night I randomly picked a book from one of the shelves in my cubby. All of the books in my cubby are either writers' toolbooks -- the dictionary, my thesaurus (the most thumbed-through book on my shelves), WordMenu (which, if you don't have it, you should go immediately to amazon.com and buy it, it's FABULOUS) -- or writing how-to books. The one my hand landed on last night was "The 38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes (and how to avoid them)". It's full of great advice -- "Don't make excuses (just write!) and "Don't worry about what Mother will think" -- but two chapters caught my eye and I wanted to share parts of them with y'all.

The first chapter is just common sense -- a no-brainer -- but the second one made me go, "Hmmmm." I've been working on the second part of a 2-part fic for WEEKS now, and I'm totally guilty of everything in that chapter, and what it had to say surprised me. See, I'm this hopeless romantic, and lots of stuff that I write is full of...well, Big Scenes and Big Emotions. I always worry about it being "too much." I thought it was RIGHT to worry about that. Here's what the book says, though. I'd like to hear what you think -- whether you agree or disagree with what the author says. Don't worry, either way -- opinions are always welcome here!

Don't Worry, Just Write! Oh, and Be Happy! )

So, tell me what you think!
