Um, we're all girls here, right? So I can say, without fear of this being TMI, that back in college I named my monthly curse "Fred." I can't remember why, but it came in handy ("Fred needs some chocolate ice cream from the DQ, dear") until the day 7 years ago that I murdered him with a hysterectomy. Flash-forward a few years and my daughter walks in from school. "Mom," she says, "Benry is craving cake."

She has named her period "Benry." Because, she says, he always shows up when he's not wanted and causes all sorts of trouble.

Rest in peace, Ean Evans.

He was more than "just" the bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was a hometown kind of guy, which I found out on the day that an electrician I'd never worked with before showed up to wire my daughter's playhouse for electricity. "He sure has a lot of hair," I thought, and then set about following him around all day, getting underfoot, because (this is not news to you, I'm sure) I have a serious hair fetish. By the end of the day, seeing that his work was almost done and I didn't want him to leave yet, I initiated a conversation that went, inanely, like this, "Man, I really like your hair. You don't see hair like that much around here. Especially wiring playhouses." Yeah. I'm not such a brilliant conversationalists when it comes to hair. And he said, "Well, in my free time I play guitar with this little band. Maybe you've heard of it?" When he said "Lynyrd Skynyrd" I think my tongue got tied in knots and I might've, like, swooned or something. Anyhow, he got away from me before I could lock him in the playhouse and keep him for my very own. *sigh*

Yesterday he succumbed to cancer at the age of 48. He lived in my hometown and his kids are roughly the ages of mine, and up until he got diagnosed he STILL ran his electrician business when he wasn't on tour. I'll miss him, not only because he was a member of one of my favorite bands EVER, but also because he was my favorite electrician and a helluva guy.

The usual disclaimer: I don't read other people's reviews 'til I've written mine. Sorry for any overlaps!
