Okay, y'all, I've got a challenge for you. I just posted this at [livejournal.com profile] thequillstation, but I wanted to make sure everyone on my flist has a chance to participate, so I'm posting here in my journal too. I want you to rec me your Lost fics! There are so many new (and new-ish) writers in the Lost fandom, it's overwhelming and WONDERFUL. You guys are going full steam ahead and that's great. On the other hand, some writers who've been in the fandom for a while feel as if they're race cars who've run out of gas. They're feeling a shortage of the "fuel" they need -- new ideas. I've noticed, though, that if I go through people's LJ memories and tags -- others and mine -- and read the old fics, it inspires the muse. I took a "refresher course" in fic-writing by re-reading all of my favorite fics, and now I feel ready to write and write and write again.

It was sad, though to think that those classic fics might be languishing in people's memories now, and some of the newer writers might not know about them. So I want to resurect them, as well as to make all of us aware of the newer fics you're proudest of.

So, the challenge here (and I hope it's an easy one!) is for you to rec your OWN fics. Not other people's, but the ones that you feel were most inspired and the ones you love the most. We all have them, the ones that just flowed through us and out our fingers and suddenly there was a beautiful fic that you didn't know you had in you. There's no room for modesty in this challenge, so don't be shy!!!

I want you to rec me (and link) *up to five* of your (own) favorite Lost fics in a reply to this post, and then next week I'll make a big rec post so that everyone who wants to can enjoy the bounty!

See, this is tricky now as most of my lost fics are now flocked and I have no idea where most of them are on Lost squee - if you find any, let me know (should really start doing bookmarks for them!). But, my hands down favourite isn't flocked as I created a separate page for it - you know which one, Avignon! I know, it's futurefic and goes completely off the main Lost stories but I still really love it - one of the first stories to really hook me in while I was writing it and it took me to surprising places too. So, if you want to add it to your list, the full story's at http://community.livejournal.com/from_avignon

Hey, hon! I'm trying to finish up my recs post, but the address I have for Avignon isn't working. I'm copying the one from ^^^, http://community.livejournal.com/from_avignon, but html doesn't seem to recognize it. Can you help?

I started with 8 but managed to get it down to 5...

1. In Admiration (in series Jack/Boone)
2. A New Normal (post-rescue Jack/Sawyer)
3. Tussling with the Big Boys (in series Jack/Sawyer)
4. The Perfect Con (in series Sawyer/Boone)
5. Two Firsts and a Last (in series Jack/Boone then Jack/Sawyer)

I was going, "Wow, I wrote a lot less in Lost then I thought" until I remembered that "In Admiration" has 40 finished parts. Then there's a common theme with all my pairings here... LOL!

Okay, here goes! *deep breath*

1. "Deeper Into Black, Deeper Into White." This one came from outside of me, I'm convinced. It came from the spirit of the mountains I love, and because of that I was somehow able to write a chapter a day for Nano(even though I'm the slowest writer on the planet!). All of the chapters live at [livejournal.com profile] smoky_verse.

2. The Wild, Caged, Free series, because it was a challenge; "Wild" was written in such a different style, and "Free" had this big ol' plot...and then came smut. ;)

3. Visibility. Okay, it's sailboat porn, lol. But it was so much fun to write.

4. Well, it seems like everything I like is porn (I do write non-smut, though!). I wouldn't change it if I could, so I might as well own it. Invictus is the most hardcore thing I've written, but it's one of those that just wrote itself and I love it when that happens.

5. This one is a drabble, Be Buried in the Rain. It's another one that wrote itself, and nearly two years later it inspired the series I'm working on now, Prisms and Echoes (pt. 1),, (pt. 2,),(pt. 3).

Looking at this list, it occurs to me that most of my favorite fics are pretty intense. But they're hopeful, too, I hope. :)

Trying to think which ones to pick, but here goes:

http://tellshannon815.livejournal.com/3003.html - "Nightmares", with various characters reflecting on the nightmares that haunt their sleep.

http://tellshannon815.livejournal.com/3916.html - "The Man From Dharma", how Ben became the leader of the Others and why he was taken prisoner.

http://tellshannon815.livejournal.com/3595.html - "Grace", more Others featuring background into the fertility problems and island life pre-815, Ethan and his wife in particular.

http://tellshannon815.livejournal.com/2580.html - "Not My Father", Walt's troubled relationship with Michael.

http://tellshannon815.livejournal.com/6663.html - "last Night I Watched You Sleeping", where Penny and Nadia have their men back but must deal with the demons they keep hidden inside.

In fact I'd post more but ought to limit myself to 5, anyone who wants is more than welcome to go read my journal though.
