First, about last night's episode, I'll say non-spoilerishly that I was happy to see that they're FINALLY getting things going this season, and I loved the beginning. I have plenty of good things to say later, I do, and some bad, but mainly this morning I just have a couple of questions for my dear Jack.
Jack, baby, you know I love you. I'd HAVE to love you to be able to put up with you for all these years. But I've just gotta know:
1) You're Aaron's uncle. You know that Kate is a murdering fugitive. And yet she tells you not to ask what she's done with the littlesnack kid (ok, that was tacky, eep) and offers you some bootie as a reward, and you totally forget about him? Oh yeah, you were the one who forgot about his Mum when she went missing, too. Oh Jack. *thumps him*
2) UM. I'm awfully glad that HURLEY worried about the fates of at least some of the passengers on that plane, because you, Dr. First-Harm-None, didn't give them a thought. But I've gotta let you off the hook for that, Jack, because that was SO OOC that I've gotta blame the writers, not you. *thumps them* But really. Dude.
ETA1: 2b) Yes, I know Jack rode around on planes in S3 hoping to crash, but there's a difference between hoping for an accident that'd be in no way his fault, and getting on a plane with good intel that it'd crash because he and the other O6 were on it. Oh, dude.
ETA2: 3) This isn't exactly about Jack, but at this point I'm ready to give Michael the Parent-of-the-Year award. Because at least he went around hollering "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT!!!" for something like eight seasons. He didn't up and forget about him like Claire, Kate, and Jack seem to have up-and-forgot-about Aaron as they went off on their various suicide missions, Sun forgot about Ji Yeon (same reason), and damn-near-everyone has either killed or been almost-killed-by their own fathers.
I haven't read my flist yet, so sorry if I stole your questions. I just now signed on and they wouldn't quit clamoring around my head so I had to get 'em out. Stay tuned for a real review when I'm done being befuddled.

Date: 2009-02-20 12:28 am (UTC)I believe this to be true. He has zero self-awareness of the consequences of his actions on others. The only thing that matters to him is what he thinks he wants. He's like Locke in that respect. How else can I rationalize Jack condoning torture, or withholding meds from Sawyer, or sticking a gun in his face demanding the guns back. Flying around in plane trip after plane trip hoping it would crash on the island again, or sticking a gun in Locke's face and actually pulling the trigger? It's all about Jack. And only Jack. You'd think after 4 and a half seasons his character would start to grow and realize his mistakes, but it only seems to be getting worse.

Date: 2009-02-19 06:29 pm (UTC)I think that they want us to buy that he's so in love with her that he'll forgive her the murders and whateverthehellelse and whatever, surely she's more important than the kid, but I can't exactly buy that. *sigh* Seriously, the only times I don't like Jack are when he's near her. Then I promptly forget about it because I have what I call the Do No Harm flashing device which forbids me to stay angry at him for more than ten minutes but really, this is getting so ridiculous I can't even say.
Re point 2, I'd give him a bit of credit because he did ask about the other people, though Hurley? Seriously beating him here. Indeed. Also if there's a theory floating saying that there was just the flash and only the O6 ended up on the island while the rest of the plane didn't crash, but who knows. *head hurts*

Date: 2009-02-19 11:49 pm (UTC)WORD. And for me, the same goes for Sawyer -- I actually dislike my favorite boy when he's around her. They both become unrecognizable to me. :/

And WORD, again. I love him so unconditionally that I find myself forgiving him for anything, eventually. He *did* ask about the people, but only when they were in the air and it was too late to do anything about it. I'm thinking that the place really did crash because Lapedus is bound to end up on the island and how would he've gotten there if not for a crash...and also they found a camp with the airline's logos on things, right? "Ow," indeed!

Date: 2009-02-19 08:13 pm (UTC)Jack should be nervous, knowing what your heading into a freakin' plane crash is whole hell of lot difference than hoping for one.
I swear it was all about problems with fathers, now it seems to have shifted with problems with MOTHERS.

Date: 2009-02-19 11:51 pm (UTC)Yeah, me too, but if I'd given in to that my tv would've been in smithereens years ago!
NOBODY seemed particularly nervous about being in another crash, did they? Kate seemed almost giddy that morning. Wtf???!

Date: 2009-02-19 08:26 pm (UTC)I've decided she left Aaron with Uncle Ray and they are off having fun together.
The plane fucking bugs me, so much. At least Hurley tried and gave thought to the other passengers/potential passengers.
I'm not blaming Sun for Ji Yeon, since it's been established she left the kid with ?her mom? in Korea. It's really the best plan when going off in search of revenge. Just ask Ben.

Date: 2009-02-19 11:56 pm (UTC)True, but they really didn't seem too concerned about crashing, did they? It's like they believed they had some guarantee that they'd survive...because why else would Kate have been cracking jokes about hiking boots that very morning? wtf?
Wasn't Ray the name of her one-armed man in Australia?
I'm not condemning Sun for not taking Ji Yeon, but for abandoning her child for (potentially) her husband. She left her daughter with her own parents, who'd proven themselves to be less-than-ideal, to run back to the island on Benry's word that Jin was alive. She gets no Mother of the Year award from me.
Funny thing is, I *liked* the episode. There were just so many things WRONG with it!

Date: 2009-02-20 04:26 am (UTC)That's the only thing that gets to me, where Sun is concerned, because (and I've said this about a million times I think) I was brought up to believe you never, never do this. Your child is first, end of story. And now Sun is doing the same thing Kate's mom did, except Sun at least made sure her daughter is safe -- although, if Sun's daughter is with Sun's mother, then Sun's dad must be in the picture too and that is kind of unfathomable.
