Oh, I think I get it.

Church + Jesus and Thomas + John Locke + 316 + father/son issues + immortality = John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I knew all those years of teaching Sunday School to 4-year-olds would come in handy someday. :)

I resent the thought of John as Jesus. *perishes*

Y'know, I think they started the series with the idea of *Jack* as Jesus (I think they still call him "Jacksus" on the message boards) but somehow Locke became their Christ-figure. He sure hasn't done anything to earn the title, though, has he? :/

When I saw the ep was called 316, that verse was my immediate thought. Even though I didn't know what it said, just that it was popular.

They kinda made their Jesusy point with the painting, which got me thinking about Locke having a slash in his side after Boone died, and all the Thomases in the show, and all that jazz.

Cuz, you know, they've neeeeeeeeever hinted at religious overtones before. ;)

I'm still not sure which of them -- John or Jack -- represents Jesus. Jack had the knife in his side, too, when he had his appendix removed. But John looks like the best candidate for ressurection at this point.

Is *that* why they had to give Jack appendicitis?

Well, at least that explains something.

Yep, I was leaving comments about that everywhere today and in my summary. There was that, doubting Thomas, all the names--Christian, John, James...it's more than a few references..and they are all over the place. Then came Ulysses with it's ties to The Odyssey and that story about a voyager..who comes home and then leaves again.

Locke ain't no Jesus and if you read my summary again today, Jesus came in White..Locke in Black, he's the opposite, no matter what he tries to pull, yes the "resurrection" should be happening soon, and I resent it for two reasons, one, again, he's no jesus, does anyone remember he KILLED Boone (or atleast it was his plan to make it look like an "accident) and two, while I'm not practising, good god, why is it alway catholicism that people have to use, honestly, it gets to be tiring.

two things: One, it's about Jack, for Christian is Jacob and Jack is his son, after so many naysayers harshing my gloat last week, I'm even more convinced I was right.

two, Christian "died" to bring him there, Locke "died" to bring him back..to where he belonged..on the island with Christian..or maybe where he's safe, where he's a leader, where he doesn't drink.

Also, Locke is way too full of himself, so he's going to get cut down, that always happens.

Oh yeah, there've been biblical references all along, and I'm sure I've missed tons of them. There's also been the theme that nothing is black or white -- everything and everyone can be judged in shades of gray. I doubt we'll know til the end who's the Good Guy and who's the Bad Guy -- if then. They've both done good and they've both done some pretty bad bad.

Well, we all know Desmond is Jesus.

;)

In seriousness though, I knew there had to be some kind of biblical reference that I wasn't getting with regards to the episode title. I figured I was wrong when it turned out the flight number was 316, but duh, since when does Lost ever have a single meaning for something? *facepalms at self*

Yup, they're just faking us out with all the Jack 'n John stuff, right? ;)

And yeah, there's always a double meaning to everything, isn't there. Half the fun's in finding it! :)

oh, I thought it referred to something else (I misunderstood a post), but that goes so well with the Lost writers need to feel clever! ahhh. it was to be expected.

Oh, DUH! You're so right. All we need is the guy in the rainbow wig at football games who's always holding that sign, heh.
