TATTOO DAYS ARE DIFFERENT. IT'S NOT THE CAPSLOCK -- I DO THAT ANYWAY. IT'S THIS THING WHERE I SUDDENLY REALIZE, HEY, I HAVE A TATTOO, WORLD!!!. On these days I wear my hair up so my tat, which is on the back of my neck, shows proudly -- the quill pen with the rose wrapped around it and the drop of ink and the drop of blood -- I feel all different and free. Perhaps this came from a conversation with the Ultra-Conservative Thing 2 Teenage Mutant Daughter as we were watching American Idol last night, and I was admiring all the tattoos. Then I started musing about what I'll get when I go to Ireland and maybe Scotland(SUGGESTIONS, ANYONE?) and DAMMIT, THIS TIME I'M GONNA GET 'EM WHERE I CAN SEE THEM. Or...probably not because I live amongst ladies. Y'know, LADIES. And I'm supposed to be one, which I will pretend to be for T2's sake for a couple more years. Anyway, she announced that I don't have a tattoo because mothers don't do that.[livejournal.com profile] gottalovev, FEEL FREE TO CHIME IN ANY TIME. MY TATTOO MAKES ME FEEL LIKE "SUCH A RADICAL!" (SEE EPONINE119'S JOURNAL, SHE WHO STOLE ALL THE GOOD QUOTES [LIKE THAT ONE] FROM SPRING AWAKENING). ANYHOW, YOU NEEDED TO KNOW THAT SO YOU'D UNDERSTAND. JUST WAIT TIL YOU SEE WHAT-ALL I'MA GONNA POST TODAY, 'CAUSE IT'S TATTOO DAY.

Anyway, she announced that I don't have a tattoo because mothers don't do that.

My tattooed mom cousins would find that hysterical. (SRSLY, I'm like the weird cousin because I don't have one.)

GET ONE SOMEDAY! Someday when time is passing too fast and it's scaring you. (yeah, that happens) Go get a tattoo and it'll make you feel like years have disappeared. Also, you'll feel ouchie for a little while but that's half the experience -- defying the pain. It's life-changing, man. Just ask your cousins. :)

I can't commit to anything enough to get it permanently marked on my skin. :P I got my nose pierced freshman year of college, took it out senior year (so three years ago), and for the last few months I've been thinking about getting it redone. I do hope that someday something means enough to me that I'd want a tattoo of it though - my friends who have tats with stories behind them are my favorite tattoos.

Oooh your tattoo! I love it. You are teaching T2 that you can mother just fine, even with a little ink on your neck.

Speaking of Irish things, if I was to get one, I wanted a claddagh symbol on the small of my back.

I love you for loving my tattoo. It makes me squee to think about you guys seeing it when it was NEW. And sometimes I wanna say that T2 can BITE ME. She's so proper it makes my teeth squeak.

Ooooh, I love Claddagh symbols...I wear one sometimes on my wedding finger, since I won't wear my wedding ring. I guess I just love the symbol. And it would look lovely on your back. So, come to Scotland in July (cause I'll be there) and we'll zip off to Ireland and get our tattoos! ;)

Awwww, you think I'm a lady after all you saw in Vegas? I must not have been bad enough. ;) KIDDING; I think that's a compliment. I have this overwhelming desire to be a proper lady and a flaming hussy too. IT CAN BE DONE, JUST WATCH!!!

I want this Irish poem tattooed on me, but I'd have to find a place, and maybe divide it into 2 places:

We are the music makers
And we are the dreamers of dreams....
(I'm leaving some out)
But we are the movers and shakers
Of the world forever it seems.

That just seems so true of the dreamy, yet so influential Irish writers. And I wish I was one!

Oh,your tattoo is BEAUTIFUL and doesn't make you less of a lady!:)

Anyway, she announced that I don't have a tattoo because mothers don't do that
My mom is almost 60,she is a gorgeous oldfashioned lady and only a few days ago she was saying that she'd get a tattoo if she wasn't so afraid of a pain, lol.

Thank you, love! We are beautifully marked, and although I forget to be proud, today I remembered. ♥

She needs to read the last chapter of "Why Is My Mother Getting a Tattoo (and other questions I'm afraid to ask). It's very empowering.

Tell her that the pain is one of the best parts, because you feel like even if you're of an age, you're not frail and you're taking on that pain dragon and kicking it's ass.

Good for you,Allie! You were brave when you got that tattoo!:)

Oh,mom knows-she is not afraid, really.I believe she is cool enough with the idea of a tattoo, but doesn't really want one and pain is a convenient excuse.

As the girl who is perpetually planning her next tat, I highly approve of TATTOO DAY!

Also, my sister (who is 11 years younger than me) tells me regularly that girls can't have tattoos, because it's not appropriate. It makes me giggle.

HA, I'm inappropriately wondering how old your sister is. 'Cause she sounds like my kid...but you don't have to tell! And yeah, doesn't EVERYBODY say they're just gonna get one little tat, and then it takes over your head somehow and you don't want to stop, ever? What's with that? (Thing 1 is on his 5th. Someday he will be Snakeman.)

lmaaaaaao! I could never get a tattoo, but I'm always in awe of everyone who has one. Your sounds pretty! I dunno, no suggestions. One of my best friends had another of our best friends draw hers. It's very pretty. If you have someone close to you who has some drawing talent, maybe you could do that!

You should definitely put the next one where YOU can see it (sorry, but my feeling is if you can't see it, why bother? *shrugs*). You could have it in a place that's visible to you but normally covered...

I could figure out what I actually wanted, I'd get it on my ribcage, on the side. That was I could see it, and also it would be hidden 99% of the time.

Does T2 not know you have a tattoo? Maybe I misread that. Because how could you keep it a secret for that long?

You are hilarious. When are you going to Ireland? With whom? I remember that you are going, but nothing else.

(oh no! I just deleted my tattoo icon! But it's using the same picture as gottalovev, so just look there.)

Your tattoo is gorgeous and meaningful, what the hell else matters? Answer: nothing.

I haven't gotten one yet. I want one! But haven't gotten one. I think the first one (because from what I've heard they're a gateway drug!) will have my brothers' initials on it somewhere, because they're (non-creepy I swear) the first 3 loves of my life and they always will be. That's the only exception I think I could ever make to "no names tattoo'd on ever."

And Ireland! That's so awesome! I want to go back :( I was in Cork for a few days back in college and I LOVED it...I should just pack up and meet you there...

*wishes*

I was seriously talking to a co-worker today about tattoos! She has a huge beautiful colorful one with dolphins and waves on her lower back. She also raised her pant leg and showed me the one on her thigh (also a dolphin). I was telling her I want another one, I just don't want anyone to see it.

And the mom thing...I'm one. I just got my first tattoo a little over a year ago. :)

And oh, Ireland? Niiiiice. :)

TATTOO DAY! Awesome!

I love this idea - celebrating your ink no matter what others think of them. :)

I recently got a new one on my ankle - its my most visible one, and i just love that its out there.

Meep, the worst thing about being at university is not being able to watch American Idol with my Mum. :(

We used to giggle over Simon and Ryan's epic love story together. But I'm going home tonight so TV Catch-Up Friday.

(England all the way. Not that I'm biased or anything.)

You go do it, if you want one! Just don't expect me to join this trend, any more than more shoes or flashing boobs! I'll stick with my ten pairs of shoes! ha! There are some nice Celtic/Gaelic designs though, if you want to celebrate Ireland.

Oooooh, the tattoo I've always wanted to get (and maybe will, eventually) is a Trinity Knot. It's a Celtic symbol ... would be very apropos for a trip to Scotland or Ireland! ;P

From: [identity profile] alliecat8.livejournal.com
I love trinity knots. I love the concept of three -- however someone choses to interpret it. That IS very Irish. Where would you put it, if you were me and wanted to be able to hide it any time you wanted (which would be 99% of the time?)

From: [identity profile] valhalla37.livejournal.com
Hmmmmm -- I've always figured if I suck it up and do it, I'd get mine on my lower back somewhere, which would mean it's effectively hidden most of the time.

Maybe your hip as well? That would be pretty hidden. I'd love to have one on my wrist, but that's too "out there" for a government bureaucrat, I think. ;P
