I don't know how I did it, but somehow I've acquired way more Sagittariuses (Sagittari?) on my flist than any other sign. I love you guys, but what were you THINKING? Getting born this close to Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's...JUST LIKE ME! Now, even though I KNOW what day everybody's birthday is, I can't keep up individually on LJ. So, for those I've missed, for she whose is today, and for those to come:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! (the turquoise is for our birthstone)

I love y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just out of curiosity, I've been wondering about something that came up in my last thread, and I want to know. How many of you guys snooped to try to find your holiday presents before the day itself? How many held back and wanted it to be a surprise? I should make a poll - but I'd love it if you'd tell me why, either way, in the comments.

[Poll #1801651]

Yes, I am a curious bee today, but have any of you taken voice lessons? Did they make you sing with unworded tracks (like karaoke but without the words)? Do you eventually learn how to do this? 'Cause I LOVE the song I'm working on (Natalie Grant's "Held"), but I can't keep time with the track to save my life. Wanna commiserate with me? Encourage me? Tell me it can't be done? Tell me anybody can do it if they practice practice practice? 'Cuz I'm working my tail off, but I ain't gettin' to Carnegie Hall. ;)

p.s. An extra-special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a certain brand-new Sagittarius; her mom knows who I mean. :D

I don't ever LOOK for my presents, but if the hubby is stupid enough to buy things with our joint credit card, finding out what stores he shopped at is COMPLETELY fair game. :D

I've never taken private voice lessons, and all my musical theatre classes had a live pianist. BUT I do love me some karaoke! (and I really do kind of suck at that.) The BEST is when the live accompanist changes the way they play to suit how YOU are singing it.

I suspect I am a total freak but I like the thought of a surprise sometimes more than the actual surprise. I don't check my lottery tickets until I'm ready to give up the fantasy that I've won. For my birthday this year I didn't pounce on my present, I was enjoying wondering what was in the box.

Taking a jazz dance class in college was how I learned to count/keep time. I couldn't do it when I was a kid in dance and piano. In theory your teacher should be able to help you hear the beat in the track and count it. Otherwise maybe find some music where the beat is more prominent and just practice the counting. Or take dance. :P

When I was four years old, I opened half the windows in my advent calendar before December because I couldn't wait. But when it came to the dates where I'd already opened the window and knew what the picture was, it felt like kind of a let down. So I decided after that I'd never peek at anything again because I wanted to be surprised. A few years on, when I had a friend over to play and she found some hidden Christmas presents by accident (I realised what had happened when she asked why there were sweets in Mum's dusty old trunk) and straight away told her to close it because I didn't want to know.

I like surprises (hence never wanting to be spoiled for TV shows) so I would never look for gifts; if I see them accidentally, I always want to scrub out my memory (which isn't usually hard!)

I have never sung, apart from badly, so can't help you there, but I wish you good luck!
