Wait, before I get to last night's show, let me mention that I've been saying for months now that The River - which premieres tonight on ABC - looks promising. The last time I said that about a show based on the previews, it was Lost...and we all know how THAT turned out. Hmmmm...should my anticipation be tempered with a slight bit of "oh no not again!"? ;)

I haven't read any reviews yet because I wanted this to be my pure reaction, and my pure reaction is that Danno's heart is made of mush and he totally turned mine to mush, too. At this point he might even steal me away from Steve! (Luckily this is all tv-land so I can have BOTH.)

Seriously, I have hearts as big as stars in my eyes because of how much he loves his family. He'll never get back with Rachel but he'd die to protect her anyway, because she's Grace's mother and he'd do ANYTHING for Grace. Luckily this time he was able to stay cool enough under pressure to do the smart thing.

EXCEPT. When Grace was kidnapped from her tennis lesson, I was SCREAMING at the tv. Why? Because I've raised two kids and every good parent knows that there should be a family password that nobody else knows. One time my daughter was invited to a sleepover during the schoolday so she didn't know about it, and when her friend's mom came to pick the girls up, the school had to call me to tell me my daughter wouldn't leave until the mom said the password. LOL, I'd completely forgotten 'cause I trusted the mom...but SHE didn't forget. That whole situation last night could've been averted if Grace had demanded a password, the bad guy didn't know it, so the tennis instructor tracked down one of her parents to see if she had permission to go. Problem solved. I'm sorry, Danno, I love you more than ice cream with gummy bears on top, but that was DUMB.

In other news, Steve/Lori? Puh-leeze. They totally don't work. Now Danny and Lori are adorable...they can be lovable geeks together, if they want. But I'll yell at the tv if they go any farther than Steve being "chivalrous" (lol) with her. I like Navy-givl, whose name I can't remember; she's like a female Steve.

Tho of course in Allie-land it's all about Steve/Danny, and if you couldn't see how jealous Steve was when Danny was hugging Rachel, you were NOT wearing your slash-glasses. For shame, for shame. *wanders away muttering incoherently about hot boys doing naughty things*

I think Lost has made us all leery of getting overly invested immediately! Once burned, twice shy, right? I now limit my hopes to one good season - if a show can come through with that, I'm at least marginally satisfied. Shows that can carry quality through for multiple seasons (SPN is the champ for me with 7 seasons that I've loved) are the exception.

I'll be watching The River. Hope it's good! I haven't seen any previews, just heard about it from the flist.

Yes, you're right but also, I stayed totally invested heart and soul in Lost long after I knew wtf was going on! I got in so deep so fast, I couldn't get out - it became an addiction. I'd still be watching it today if it was around, and I still miss it like hell. But maybe that comes from being addicted to a soap opera for 20-something years - they never make sense but who cares?

I missed the whole SPN party thanks to my Dish Network, but I did jump on the H50 ship. I'll bet it can give us quite a few solid seasons.

I'm glad you'll be watching The River. I can't wait to hear what you think about it!

Lost ruined all the TV shows for me, not because it was but, but because to me it was so important and addictive that I don't think I can't find any other TV shows that lives up to the expectatives.

Hope The River is good, tho! I'll definitely check it out, there's not much new TV shows I'm enjoying this year, sadly.

I feel the same way. I don't care how crazy it got, it was MY SHOW and I was gonna hold on tight as long as I could. I think I was beyond addicted and well into crazed by the end, lol! But if it was still on I'd still be mainlining it like dope.

I need your icon, 'cause that's just how I feel.

OTOH, The River sucked me in. I might be hooked. This could be a good thing or a bad thing! ;/

a password? I never had a password with the kids! I can see how it could be a good idea, though no parent I know use that here. But anyway, it would not work at school or the daycare, because password or not, if you are not on the pre-authorized list, you can't take the kid, even if you're the grandma.

Awww, darling, I KNOW you're a good mom (and Danno is a GOOD daddy!). The password thing is just some advice I got once that I decided was a great idea. The purpose is to only tell it to people you trust, so any time you or your husband asks someone else to pick up one of your kids, you tell them the password. So grandma would know it, of course. And trusted friends. But if someone doesn't know it, then the adult in charge would have to get permission from someone who does know it before they let the kid go with someone else. Both my kids knew the rule and there was only a problem that one time, and it was just because I'd forgotten to tell the other mom the word. Heh, now that the kids are grown, I wonder if they still remember it. I'll have to ask them...the next time I can catch one long enough to talk to them!

Besides that, how'd you like the show? I think I cried at least 5 times!

probably some people do it here too, but not for school or daycare, since as I said it would not work. you could say the right password for days and they wouldn't let the kids go if they are not on the list. the only people who picked the kids up in almost 14 years have been me and my husband and - maybe 5 times total - my mom.

I found the show entertaining and over the top, as usual... wouldn't be H50 otherwise. I am growing more and more detached but I still enjoy it.

It was definitely the most Lost-like of all the post-Lost shows and yet it had no "the new Lost!" hype at all. Which makes me kinda respect it more. (Spielberg doesn't need to try to copy Abrams, eh? Although he's an exec producer, which means could his involvement could be no more than "presenting.") Then again, hyping something as the "new Lost" is so 2010.

I've never seen any of the Paranormal Activity movies but this was soooo creepy.

Oops, I stole your words about Spielberg not needing to copy Abrams! Sorry - it was an innocent mistake!

I agree that it's more respectable to let the show stand on its own merits...but then again, those of us who are longing for a new Lost will take all we can get! I feel kind of pathetic ('cause yeah, Lost is like totally out of style). *pouts* Can we be blamed for missing it like crazy and longing for something that'll fill the void?

I guess The River scared me subconsciously, IF whatever grabbed my foot was really in a dream. I'd still swear under oath that it was real, though. And although I didn't get pulled under water, I got bronchitis the next day and I've been wheezing like crazy ever since. Maybe I need a little mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from Lincoln....
