Hey, this is only Thursday. If I'm gonna do my Friday Lost review, I still have one more day to finish it. Cool! Although it's possible that all I was capable of saying about that ep was what I said right afterward about Sawyer. Since I wasn't there (jump into the tv much, Allie?), it was the only thing I could do.

And after reading and commenting on 50+ reviews yesterday (if I didn't reply to yours, it was an oversight and you can 1)smite me with the Jesus stick, and 2) tell me in your own way (quietly and timidly and politely, or "WTF, ALLIE?") that I missed you. OH, I have 3 more to go, I know -- they're the 3 right before mine ([livejournal.com profile] ella_bee, this means you!) 'cuz I was busy writing at the time, so I'll be there asap.

I have one thing to say, though, and I wish I didn't have to say it behind a cut. Maybe I'll say it again unhidden later.

I've read lots of opinions about Sawyer's actions, lack of certain actions, interactions, etc., and some of you have good points. Still, this is the FIRST TIME we've seen someone truly grieve, and I mean GRIEVE. Raw, pure, animal grief. Like a real person would (yeah, I even buy the ring-throwing...grief IS melodramatic). My heart cries and aches and bleeds for my boy, but whether you were on board with their romance or not, it seems that Juliet is getting the send-off she deserves. Thank you, for once, writers.

Sawyer's behavior/actions were to me one of the redeeming qualities of the episode. There were good things and necessary things that needed to happen in the episode (and I imagine a great deal of it is set up for stuff still to come), but I could have done with way less of the parallel Kate story.

It was definitely necessary for the writers to finally show some genuine grief. I have a feeling that the grief is needed for Sawyer's character development somehow. I'm fascinated to see how it turns out.

I think everybody could've done without Kate. But Skate is OVER. They've had their swan song. He knows genuine love, and she can't give it to him. I'm convinced.

I wasn't a fan of the episode, but I found Sawyer's grief moving, in character, and believable. So many Lost deaths appear to be forgotten almost immediatley, particularly Charlie's, so it is nice to see the writers taking the time to show this.

Funny, I wrote in a couple of bitter sentences about Charlie's death and how nobody grieved for him, not even Claire, and then he was forgotten. I took them out because I didn't want to over-emphasize his death over the other ungrieved ones (Shannon). But yes, his was the most obvious and WTF example! Bad writers, BAD. Sawyer's grief must play into his character development and something we'll see later, or he'd be all over Kate by now, sigh.

Sawyer's grief--and grieving process--made sense to me, too. It really rang true in a chapter where most of the characters seemed more lost and off-base than ever. Whoever wrote this episode deserves kudos for that.

Yes, it felt extremely genuine, right down to his thousand-yard stare when he was in the temple. I think I'll give credit to Josh for that (and ALL of his scenes) rather than the writers, because they just tend to get in the way of his heartfelt performances.

Good point. I thought it seemed weird. ;)

Seriously, I am glad they went there because if they had gone the "oh, they died? that was five minutes ago, I forgot/don't care anymore" route they always take, I would have been incredibly upset. Or not, since it's to be expected. *sigh*

I wonder if they ever wonder how/why they ended up with a show where Sawyer is the only character who seems to actually live and breathe rather than being cardboard. Especially at this point.

Wow, am I negative much? Sorry. *slinks away*

I am SO GLAD they went there, because if they hadn't I'd have lost all respect for the show...and I've actually gained some back this season.

I wonder if they ever wonder how/why they ended up with a show where Sawyer is the only character who seems to actually live and breathe rather than being cardboard.

I wonder if anybody *else* in the industry has noticed. Poor Josh seems to have stayed under the radar. Is he going to have a career after this, or is he just going to be Mr. Mom?

Did that image just make you puke? I'm sorry...it was out before I could stop it. *holds your hair back*

I was worried, actually, that they'd do the non-caring thing with Sawyer. especially since I've had grudges with other characters for less.

It is icky but I kinda think you're right, about the future. But maybe his, uh, manager won't let him stay home.

He won't be. I think we saw the end of Skate when he went into his house without even acknowledging her. She hardly even exists for him anymore. Juliet was a WONDERFUL doctor for curing him of Kate!

You may have sold me on Sawyer's grief. I was one of those people who felt nothing watching it the first time around.

But now that you mention it, I remember when Charlie died my biggest complaint was that Claire wasn't given any time to grieve him. So I guess I should be happy that the writers are learning from past mistakes.

Oh, wow, I'm proud of myself! I always feel like I never influence anybody!

And yeah, I cut my rant about Charlie out of my post because this was supposed to be about Sawyer, but that was the WORST example of them all. And there have been some bad ones. (re: Shannon)

WORD, about everything you said. I liked the way they handled Sun's reaction to Jin's apparent death, and Dan with Charlotte's as well, but I very much thought how they had Sawyer respond to Juliet's death was IC and touching and a nice moment, even in its sadness.
