alliecat8: (Never Stop Fighting)
Today I'm in the mood for AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH songs. Dark and grungy and rebellious and LOUD. I'm sure the whole town heard my car radio when they played Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar and my FAV (brings back memories of pep rallies), WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT, NO WE AIN'T GONNA TAKE IT, WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE

WE'RE RIGHT
WE'RE FREE
WE'LL FIGHT
YOU'LL SEE!!!

Bam - in your face world!!! Got any songs like that for me?

ETA: Megan gave me one in email - TOTALLY FUCKED. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvpsFg9I2do (for you Broadway babes, this was Jon and Lea's last performance - hence the crowd hysteria. And can I just say, Jon Groff is hot?!)
alliecat8: (Write Your Own Song)
Siri, play me some music to sing to because I want to SIIIIIIIIIINNNNNG - and it better be good or I'm deleting you.

Siri? Siri, you there?

Anybody got any great singable music (that I already know)? Hubby's iPod raped my computer with his music (he is sitting jury duty this week - I could burst into the courtroom and point and dramatically say, "I accuse HIS IPOD!") and now it's all mixed together and yuck.

Unfortunately one person's "yuck" is another person's OMGYAAAAAAAY!!! Just ask Miss Unnamed :P, who disappeared when I hit her with Handel's Messiah. (ok, you owe me a snarky reply. but only one.)

But I need need NEED to sing! What's a songbird to do with no song?
alliecat8: (Play)
This meme's all over my flist so I'm gonna give a question to the first 20 people who post it. If nobody lets me answer a question, I'm gonna answer 'em ALL without an LJ cut, neener! No, I'm not that immature. I'll pout quietly in my corner. Srsly, come play with me!

alliecat8: (flickering b-day candles)
[livejournal.com profile] eponine119 just reminded me that yesterday was our 7-year lj-versary. She also mentioned that wasn't it weird that it coincides with the anniversary of Katrina (now I'll have a reminder, ha!) I'd been on LJ about a week, working up my nerve, posting stories that no one was reading because I had no friends (duh, Allie), and then I took the plunge and friended Megan and [livejournal.com profile] halfdutch and [livejournal.com profile] uberaeryn and [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub and then a tree fell on my house and I disappered for a week. I was afraid I'd come back and have no friends! But after all this time, the ones who matter are still around and I ♥!!! you guys!

Edit: The ones who matter are mostly still around. K, you lurking today? Or is that a sooperseekrit?
alliecat8: (flickering b-day candles)
This message is to wish a HAPPY BIRTHDAY to all my summer-born friends (um, [livejournal.com profile] haldoor is my exceptional winter-born kiwi friend - I think it's charmiing). I haven't forgotten you and I do remember who Y'ALL are! :D I'm having serious problems keeping up, though, so please forgive me because I fail at posting happy birthdays and I fail even more at posting GOOD happy birthdays:

Happy Birthday Song
alliecat8: (Randomness)
We plan; God laughs.

Ain't it the truth?

Cat poop (NOT pictured - for your viewing pleasure) )
alliecat8: (Angel Hits the Ground)
Good Allie (as opposed to Bad Allie who shows up here most of the time :P ) went to church this morning. Went to Sunday School and no one was there, we were in the gym filling bags with rice and protein supplement and dehydrated vegetables to send to impoverished areas overseas. There must've been 200+ people working. (we all wore red hair nets and looked like clowns) In ONE HOUR we filled 30,600 bags. Each bag holds 6 meals. I'm so exhausted my hands are shaking, but I feel good, even though I forgot and was 7 minutes late for choir and everybody had to move to let me get to my seat and the sanctuary was full of staring people and we were on tv, oops. *facepalm* But while I'm journaling, I'm going to enter this for me, in public to help me remember. You're welcome to take anything you need and leave the rest - I'll love you whatever! ♥

Make me a channel of peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring love.
Where there is despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light.
And where there is sadness, ever joy.
May I never seek to BE consoled as to console.
To be understood as to understand.
To be loved as to love with all my soul

For it is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
It is in giving that we receive.
Make me a channel of peace....
alliecat8: (Music Saves My Soul)
Two of the corniest songs in the world that I'm not ashamed to say I'll love til I die:

"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack (and dedicated by me to my daughter), and

"The Climb" by Miley Cyrus

There. I said it and I'm gonna stand by it.

oh, and I have to give Martina McBride's "Anyway" an honorable mention; I just don't think it's particularly corny)
alliecat8: (David Gilmore)
Did you know that back when he was a teen and early 20's, David Gilmore was Taylor Kitch's twin? Just FYI. <<< See?

Half of you will think "who's David Gilmore?" Sad. So sad.

alliecat8: (Grrrrrrr)
LJ, why on EARTH can't you put icons in alphabetical order?
alliecat8: (Aqua dress celebration)
I cleaned out my closet. Now I can buy more clothes.

I'm sure that [livejournal.com profile] eponine119 will remind me of the other factor in this equation. :(

alliecat8: (Bitch of living)
IMO, I think a woman should be required to carry a child for 9 months and then raise him for at least 25 years before she should be allowed to marry him. http://alliecat8.livejournal.com/459789.html
alliecat8: (Frownie Face)
Thing 1 got married.

I hate my daughter in law. She stole my child, and doesn't a parent always think of their kids as their children, like, forever?
alliecat8: (Laughing Kitten)
My cat Jello seems to have decided that she's Superman.

But I'm afraid with a belly like that she'll never make it past the ceiling.

Super Jello
alliecat8: (Wedding Bells)
My mom and I have been getting my house ready for Thing 1's wedding guests, and to make the job a little more fun, we've been sampling different era's on Sirius. Which led to a memory of me taking a walk with my dad, bopping along to the Top 40 on the transistor radio. I was young enough to be excited about what would be #1. But when it started to play, my dad abruptly changed stations. I didn't understand why, because I knew the song and didn't see anything wrong with it.... (double entendres were way over my head at that age!) Wanna hear? *giggles and runs away*

Chuck Berrys My Ding a Ling

Here are the lyrics for people like me who are rarely on youTube's good side )
alliecat8: (Two Guitars)
I haven't posted since March. That's because music has become my life. Well, that and traveling but that was all about music, too, the Broadway shows...anyway, here goes:

Some cognitive scientists believe human response to music provides evidence that we are more than just flesh and blood - that we also have souls. Their thinking is as follows:

All reactions to external stimuli can be traced back to an evolutionary rational. You pull your hand away from fire to avoid physical harm. You get butterflies before an important speech because the adrenaline running through your veins has caused a physiological fight or flight response. But there is no evolutionary context within which people's response to music makes sense - the tapping of feet, the urge to sing along or to get up and dance, there's just no survival benefit to these activities. For this reason, some believe that our response to music is proof that there's more to us than just biological and physiological mechanics - that the only way to be moved by the spirit, so to speak, is to have one in the first place.

Thoughts?
alliecat8: (Glad We're Friends)
Wow, look at all the pretty glass hearts! Thanks for making my user-info page so lovely, y'all! I guess you heard I was sick - bronchitis kind of knocked me flat - but this made me feel soooooo much better. <3 <3 <3

Also, a great big welcome to my new friends! You're the first ones I've ever had that I didn't meet through Lost in some way. I know the time has come, so YAY for branching out! ♥ ♥ ♥
alliecat8: (Runaway)
Ooh, LJ looks different somehow. Have they redecorated in my absence or is it the fact that I'm using my Netbook?

Friends, especially new friends, I'm here to tell you that I'm not here. I'm on the road with only my hated Netbook for updating. Srsly, I can't even type on my laptop; for me it's my PC or nothing. How do you texters do it? So the point of this post is to say that I accidentally disappeared w/o notice but I'll be home soon, I hope. In the meantime I am lurking shamelessly and I'm with you in spirt.

Hey, my H50 girls, what did my husband mean when he said I had to d/l it and I'd love the ending? (wait, don't spoil me; maybe this infernal machine will behave long enough for me to watch it. I'll let ya know what I think with a thumbs up or down then read some slash because it doesn't require typing!)
alliecat8: (?)
...I cannot resist.

Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] haldoor

1) Make a list of fifteen characters first, and keep it to yourself for the moment.

2) Ask your f-list to post questions in the comments. For example: "One, nine, and fifteen are chosen by a prophecy to save the world from four. Do they succeed?", "Under what circumstances might five and fourteen fall in love?", etc.

3) After your f-list has stopped asking questions, round them up and answer them using the fifteen characters you selected beforehand, then post them.

I can't wait to see the funny combinations y'all come up with! :)
